Small 8vo. 7.25 x 5 inches. 42 +[1] pp. Bound in quarter brown cloth, gilt, over patterned boards. Slight wear to corners and spine titles worn and almost illegible; otherwise a very good copy. 1954 neat gift inscription on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 4 colour plates, numbered in text. Decorated by title page, chapter heading and endpiece vignettes. and by series device on half title. Facsimile endpapers. English translation of an early short story by the great French writer, Gustave Flaubert (1821-80), the author of Madame Bovary (Word.Press.com Gustave Flaubert and Bibliomania website). This story about an obsessive book collector first appeared in a magazine of 1837 and was not separately published until the twentieth century. Illustrated by the artwork of Arthur Wragg (1903-76). An attractive little Rodale Press title in their Miniature Books series.
