Notes
A little known play about Joan of Arc by Frank Harris (1855-1931), the Irish-born literary figure. In the introduction, Harris prints a highly critical letter he received from George Bernard Shaw, himself the recent author of the play Saint Joan (1923), after receiving a copy of this 'idiotic' book and reply to it by Harris. Shaw considers the play to be 'a shocking hybrid' between a short story and a drama and advises him to 'drop the whole thing into the waste paper basket with a goodhumored laugh, and apologize to posterity for the surviving copies.'
