FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.25 x 5.5 inches. ix + [1] + 190 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper with a little edge wear and chips at head and tail of spine, which is slightly darkened. Minor edge wear to boards, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by 4 pages of black and white plates, including portrait frontispiece and by double page map numbered in text. Account of the famous Venetian merchant and traveller, Marco Polo (1254-1324), who visited China, described in his book of travels. Maurice Collis (1889-1973), colonial administrator and author, was born in Dublin, joined the Indian Civil Service in 1911 and was transferred to Burma the following year. After returning to England in 1934 he devoted himself to writing, which included autobiographies, biographies, history, fiction and drama.
