FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 7.5 x 5.25 inches. viii + 205 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, with black titles. Patterned endpapers. Some wear to extremities, including corners, edges and head and tail of spine. A little scattered foxing, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 27 text figures. An 1881 practical commercial handbook describing a wide range of manufacturing processes, featuring recent innovations of the era. It contains chapters on electric lighting, mentioning its introduction in London in that year, the telephone, artificial manures and scientific agriculture, vulcanised indiarubber and numerous chemical manufacturing processes. The author compiled a number of technical books, including an account of electroplating. Volume I was also published in 1881.
