FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.25 x 5.75 inches. X + 296 + [12] pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, in non clipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear and neat repairs at head and tail of spine. A little foxing of page edges and an ink mark, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated throughout by drawings, including map. Green pictorial endpapers. An account of the life, people and landscape of the Suwannee River, rising in the Okefenokee Swamp, and flowing through Georgia and Florida into the Gulf of Mexico. By Cecile Hulse Matschat (1895-1976), geographer, botanist and author of garden books. Illustrated by Alexander Hill Key (1904-79), illustrator, but primarily a science fiction writer and author of children, books. At the end is the author's bibliographical essay and a Glossary of Old English and Scotch Words, followed by Rivers and American Folk, by Constance Lindsay Skinner (1882-1939), Canadian born writer, historian and editor, who originated The Rivers of America series, written largely by literary figures and published in sixty five volumes, 1937-74. A good copy of the first edition.
