4to. 10.25 x 7 inches. viii + 168 pp. Bound in original light blue cloth, with dark blue titles, in price clipped pictorial coloured dust wrapper, neatly repaired at head of spine. Light sunning to board edges, browning of fly leaves and some edge foxing, with traces elsewhere; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 95 pages of black and white photographic plates, including frontispiece and by 158 text figures, Well illustrated study of timber building in England by Frederick Herbert Crossley (1868-1955) in the Batsford series. The author was a wood carver and authority on wooden structures and medieval architecture, especially churches and their furnishings, This study is divided into separate sections on religious and secular buildings.
